It’s about connecting with the heart of the land and its people. When you slow down and look beyond the guidebooks, you often find the most profound experiences.

Some places are just special. As soon as you discover a hidden gem you’ll have trouble wiping the smile off your dial.
Occasionally you’ll stumble on a place that actually feels sacred. Enjoy it. Respect it and look after it. Mark it on your map as somewhere to return to when you need a recharge.
If you’re like me I’d keep it close to my chest. The last thing you want is for your special place to be overrun with tourists. Only tell people who you think deserve to know.

Australia’s natural beauty extends far beyond the famous landmarks.
Think secluded rock pools along the Great Ocean Road, the lush rainforests of Dorrigo National Park in NSW, or the remote beaches of Esperance in WA.
Nature’s hidden gems reward those willing to explore a little further.
I found some stunning little unexplored beaches in Thailand when I took the time and effort to go where others don’t usually go.

Some of Australia’s most memorable spots are its small towns. Places where local history and culture come alive.
Wander through Maldon, Victoria’s preserved gold rush town or explore the quirky art scene in Broken Hill, NSW.
These towns tell stories you won’t find in big cities.

Why stick to standard accommodation when you can sleep under the stars?
Try an off-grid cabin in Tasmania’s Huon Valley, a farm stay in the Atherton Tablelands or house-sitting in a remote coastal village or on an island.

We used to take our motorbikes and swags 10 Kms or so out of the Alice.
Just camp in a dry sandy creek bed. The stars were unforgettable. Especially with the dingoes howling for sound effects.

The best meals often come from unexpected places.
Picture a roadside seafood shack in Port Lincoln serving the freshest oysters you’ve ever had or a family-run bakery in the Snowy Mountains where the pies steal the show.
Trust local recommendations over online ratings.

Australia’s hidden cultural gems include small-town galleries, historic landmarks, and indigenous sites rich with stories.
Don’t miss the ancient rock art at Burrungkuy (Nourlangie) in Kakadu National Park or the lesser-known museums in rural towns sharing Australia’s diverse history.
